SALY SARR, DE LA 21e A LA 6e PLACE MONDIALE : « L’HEURE EST VENUE D’INVESTIR SUR CE TALENT » (EL HADJ BARA THIAM)
Senegalese Saly Sarr made a big splash at the World Athletics Championships. In her first appearance, the young triple jump specialist not only reached the final, but also improved her personal best with a leap of 14.55 meters.
A major performance that allowed her to climb from 21st to 6th place in the world, just 39 centimeters behind the world champion. Facing tough competition – a four-time world champion and an Olympic champion – the Senegalese woman was able to establish herself among the elite.
"Her 14m55 is a feat because she was up against jumpers who regularly compete in the 14m70-14m80 range. But she is maintaining a constant progression: her record has gone from 14m41 to 14m55, proof of her potential," underlines El Hadj Bara Thiam, 1st vice-president of the Senegalese Athletics Federation and director of the Dakar International Meeting.
For him, the time has come to bet on this nugget of Senegalese athletics.
"She's a potential world or Olympic medalist. But to get there, she needs total support. The state must help her get into American universities where sport and studies go hand in hand, with suitable infrastructure. Many French athletes already benefit from these conditions. Senegal would benefit from betting on this talent," argues Mr. Thiam.
With considerable room for improvement and a mentality already forged by major competitions, Saly Sarr is now establishing himself as one of the greatest hopes of Senegalese athletics.

Saly Sarr risque de subir le même sort.
Il ya un manque de bonne volonté des autorités, ce qui est dangerosissime pour l'athlétisme sénégalais...
