Sénégal vs Pérou (2-0) : Les tops et les flops
In their first match after winning the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, Senegal lived up to expectations against Peru. In a packed Stade de France, the Lions of Teranga celebrated their victory in style with a convincing 2-0 win, thanks to goals from Nicolas Jackson and Ismaila Sarr. Here are the highs and lows.
The tops
Ibrahim Mbaye
Despite his limited playing time at PSG, Ibrahim Mbaye still possesses his vision. Against Peru, he was the catalyst for Senegal's attacks. His devastating acceleration and perfectly timed pass set up Nicolas Jackson for the opening goal. Before being substituted after the hour mark, he unfortunately saw his one-on-one opportunity saved by the Peruvian goalkeeper, Pedro Gallesse. The best Senegalese player on the pitch.
Idrissa Gana Guèye
A player in the shadows? No, Idrissa Gana Gueye is more than that. The Lions' midfielder illuminated his team's play. With simplicity, he organized and created space. With efficiency, he covered ground and won back possession. Age seems to have no effect whatsoever on his performance.
The flops
Assane Diao
His return was eagerly awaited, and he only had a few minutes on the pitch, but Diao didn't look comfortable. First on the right, then on the left, the Como striker lacked dynamism and misjudged several of his passes. We hope to see him back to his best against Gambia.
Boulaye Dia
Like Diao, his introduction also had no impact on the match. Up front, Boulaye Dia suffered from Senegal's drop in performance during the last half hour.
