The match-fixing scandal continues to rock Turkish football! This Monday, the Istanbul judiciary took a further step, ordering the pre-trial detention of eleven players from the first and second divisions. Nine of them are suspected of having bet on their own matches, an act severely punished by law and sporting regulations.

The investigation, which has been shaking the inner workings of Turkish football for several weeks, continues to expand. Nineteen more people, including four Süper Lig players, have been placed under judicial supervision after being questioned by investigators.

Among the top-flight players mentioned in the case is Senegalese midfielder Alassane Ndao (29 years old), currently under contract with Konyaspor. The former Dakar Sacré-Cœur player is implicated alongside Metehan Baltacı (Galatasaray) and Mert Yandaş (Fenerbahçe), the latter accused of having placed bets through a third party in an attempt to conceal his involvement.

The case is not limited to the upper divisions alone: nine other suspects, including the presidents of two third-division clubs, have also been placed in pre-trial detention for their alleged role in manipulating a match during the 2023-2024 season.

As the investigation progresses, the list of those involved grows longer and reveals the extent of a fraudulent betting system deeply rooted in certain strata of Turkish football.

The judicial authorities promise to "shed full light" on this case which could lead to major sporting and criminal sanctions.
