The stretch of road linking Sédhiou to Kolda has become a real obstacle course for road users. Stray animals are now the main cause of accidents, often fatal, on this strategic route in Casamance.
Despite numerous awareness campaigns, many livestock owners continue to let their herds graze in the immediate vicinity of the road, without any supervision.
This situation becomes critical at nightfall. The lack of lighting makes the animals virtually invisible to motorcyclists and drivers, turning every nighttime journey into a risky ordeal. Adding to this persistent threat is the absence of advance warning signs for speed bumps, which regularly catch motorists off guard.
Given the recurring tragedies, immediate action is needed. It is imperative to impose severe penalties on negligent owners and to systematically impound stray animals. These measures are essential to guarantee public safety and improve traffic flow between the two regional capitals.
