Bac 2026 à Thiès : ce que les autorités ont constaté dans les centres d’examen
The 2026 general baccalaureate exams are proceeding smoothly in the Thiès region, according to administrative and educational authorities who conducted the traditional tour of examination centers. The Thiès regional education inspector, Gana Sène, indicated that the region has 75 examination centers this year, including 8 secondary centers. With 31,143 candidates, Thiès represents 17.22% of the national total for the general baccalaureate.
Among the new features of this session, the regional education inspector highlighted the "Baccalaureate Portal" digital platform, designed to digitize the entire exam organization process. According to him, this tool allows for the registration of candidates, teachers, examiners, and jury presidents. It also facilitates the early detection of students' civil status issues.
"As early as October, we can identify candidates with civil status issues, whereas previously these problems were often only discovered in January," he explained.
This digitalization also helps to reduce processing times and improve the efficiency of the organization of the baccalaureate at the national level.
The Thiès academy has recorded an increase of 2,189 candidates compared to the 2025 session. This increase is accompanied by a strengthening of the human resources with more than 5,800 people mobilized to ensure the smooth running of the exams.
Gana Sène welcomed the initial feedback from the examination centers, which he deemed "reassuring," while congratulating all those involved in the organization.
For his part, the deputy governor of the Thiès region, Ababacar Sadikh Niang, expressed his satisfaction with how the exams were conducted. He noted a high turnout of candidates at the centers, despite a few absences.
Of the 31,143 registered candidates, girls represent 62.5% of the total number.
The deputy governor also commended the measures taken to support the 36 candidates with special needs, including those who are visually impaired, hearing impaired, and have reduced mobility. "They were placed in conditions that allowed them to take the exams on the same footing as other candidates," he stated, adding that this approach contributes to strengthening inclusion in the education system.
At the end of this visit, the authorities concluded that the 2026 general baccalaureate exams are proceeding smoothly in the Thiès region. They attribute this success to the collaboration between administrative services, educational officials, teachers, and all stakeholders involved in organizing the exam.
Encouraging academic performance
The school inspector also highlighted the recent performances recorded in the region.
He noted that the technical baccalaureate had a success rate of 89%, while the Certificate of Completion of Elementary Studies (CFEE) reached a success rate of 93.88%.
Furthermore, the Thiès academy distinguished itself academically with Khadidjatou Kâ's victory in the national Miss Mathematics competition. The Amary Ndack Seck High School also won first prize in the national English competition organized by the United States Embassy. "These are achievements that deserve recognition, even if there are still challenges to overcome," emphasized Gana Sène.
Delays in student teacher scholarships: a situation being rectified
When questioned about the delay in teacher stipend payments, the regional education inspector clarified that this situation affected the entire country. He assured, however, that the situation had now been resolved in Thiès and that the authorities were continuing their efforts to eliminate the delays nationwide.
According to him, a cyberattack targeting the Treasury contributed to slowing down payment operations, but the State is actively working towards a return to normal.
