Bignona : Le DG du Port autonome de Dakar équipe le centre de santé d’une radiographie numérique
Through its foundation, the Autonomous Port of Dakar (PAD) has equipped the Bignona health center with a digital X-ray room. The equipment was handed over in the presence of local authorities and elected officials, under the leadership of Mayor Bacary Diatta and PAD Director General Waly Diouf Bodian.
Relief for the population
The mayor of Bignona, Bacary Diatta, expressed a great sigh of relief for the people of the department. "The people of Bignona have been through a long period of ordeal, forced to travel to Ziguinchor, even for a simple X-ray. Today, thanks to the support of the Dakar Autonomous Port Foundation, we have a state-of-the-art digital X-ray machine. We owe this support, of great social significance, to the leadership of Waly Diouf Bodian, director general of the port and chairman of the foundation's board," he said.
For two years, the Bignona radiology unit was inactive due to a lack of equipment, leaving medical staff helpless to meet patients' needs. "This equipment arrives at a time of real need. It will allow the reopening of the radiology unit, which has been closed for two years. Our patients had to travel in difficult conditions to Ziguinchor for a simple X-ray. This digital X-ray will strengthen the quality of care and reduce social inequalities in health, in accordance with the Head of State's policy in the Senegal 2050 framework," said Dr. Lamine Sagna, head physician of the Bignona health district. He added that this device will strengthen staff capacity to make accurate diagnoses in a shorter time frame, improving access to quality care for the department's 298,211 inhabitants.
Persistent challenges
Dr. Sagna took the opportunity to discuss other challenges in the department, which has three health districts and 78 health centers for a dense population. "These facilities face many difficulties in caring for patients, including the lack of a permanent ultrasound machine. Current ultrasound does not allow our specialized providers to properly care for patients," he lamented.
A commitment to health
For PAD Director General Waly Diouf Bodian, this gesture is part of a desire to make quality health services accessible, particularly in remote areas, and to strengthen the technical platform of the Bignona health center, crucial for the municipality and its surrounding areas. "Access to quality health services in the most remote areas is at the heart of our foundation's concerns. A healthy population is the foundation of sustainable development. In collaboration with the Ministry of Health and Public Hygiene, the PAD foundation has carried out several projects, including the granting of scholarships for the training of around ten doctors," he emphasized.
