[Documentaire] L’eldorado du Delta : Comment Ross Béthio est devenue le grenier du Sénégal
Located in the department of Saint-Louis, in northern Senegal, Ross Béthio has established itself over the years as one of the country's main agricultural hubs. Nestled between the arms of the Senegal River, its irrigation systems, and the vast arable lands of the delta, the town is making the most of its natural potential. Rice cultivation, market gardening, livestock farming, and food processing are just some of the activities taking place.
Ross Béthio embodies a large part of Senegal's ambitions regarding food sovereignty.
In this community, producers are now trying to open up new opportunities, particularly through wheat cultivation. However, alongside these promising projects lie numerous difficulties, such as a lack of resources, water constraints, problems marketing harvests, aging infrastructure, and tensions surrounding resource management. Added to this are social challenges that contrast sharply with the area's economic potential.
