Kaolack : Ngayene Sabakh envahie par les criquets
Located in the Nioro department, the commune of Ngayène Sabakh has been facing a locust plague for over 90 days. Fruit trees and shrubs are literally being attacked by these insects. But the most pressing issue is social and economic. The market gardens, the economic lifeblood of the area where hundreds of women work, are at risk. Despite the implementation of traditional control methods, the situation is dire: the population is overwhelmed. "We've tried everything, but the locusts keep coming back in ever-increasing numbers," laments a local farmer.
Mamadou Bassirou Gaye, a resident of Ngayene Sabakh, explains: "We are exhausted because of the locusts that are invading our fields. The situation is critical and alarming. We are appealing to the relevant services, such as the DPV (Directorate of Plant Protection), to help us before it is too late, because the locusts have devastated everything. Only the acacia trees have been spared. Everyone knows that we are approaching the rainy season; it is better to take action before the rainy season begins," he warned.
