The State of Senegal has officially launched the National Youth Convention, a new framework for consultation and dialogue aimed at strengthening youth involvement in institutional processes and public policy development. Adopted by the Council of Ministers on November 12, 2025, this initiative is considered a decisive step in consolidating the partnership between the State and youth organizations.

Presiding over the ceremony, the Secretary General of the Ministry of Sports and Youth, Moustapha Diagne, reaffirmed the government's commitment to the sustainable participation of young people in public governance, emphasizing that they now occupy a central and permanent place in decision-making processes. Khady Diene Gaye noted that nearly 75% of the Senegalese population is under 35 years old, giving young people a strategic role in national development. The Convention aims to be a forum for constructive dialogue to identify sustainable and inclusive solutions.

The president of the Senegal Youth Consortium, Sobel Aziz Ngom, emphasized the central role of youth in public policy, warning that any marginalization would be detrimental to the country's future. He advocated for greater inclusion, a strengthened education system, and effective professional integration for young people.

The convention's work will focus on five priority themes: civic engagement, business and employment, education, training and career guidance, entrepreneurship, and participatory governance, with a particular emphasis on rural areas. With the participation of the fourteen regional youth directors, this framework aims to establish a sustainable participatory dynamic, based on listening and co-creating public policies tailored to the aspirations and needs of Senegalese youth.
