There is deep unease within the presidential movement, undermined by a visible falling out between the Diomaye-Sonko duo over the leadership of the Diomaye-President coalition. In a newsletter dated November 11, 2025, the President of the Republic announced the removal of Aïda Mbodj from the head of the Conference of Leaders of this coalition, which had endorsed his candidacy for the March 2024 presidential election. This decision comes 72 hours after the teleconference during which the leader of Pastef, Ousmane Sonko, reaffirmed his support for his "mother" (Aïda Mbodj), who, according to him, remains "the only president of the Conference of Leaders recognized by Pastef."
Reacting to the president's letter, which had a seismic impact, Pastef declared at the end of its late-night "emergency meeting": "Mr. Bassirou Diomaye Faye does not have the power to dismiss Ms. Aïda Mbodj, who was appointed by the Conference of Leaders. The coalition has never had Bassirou Diomaye Faye as its president; he was merely its candidate." Consequently, the ruling party added defiantly: "Pastef and its allies do not recognize themselves in any initiative coordinated by Ms. Aminata Touré."
