Transparence et dialogue : la Senelec ouvre ses portes à la commission Énergie de l'Assemblée nationale

As part of its public service mission, the National Electricity Company of Senegal (Senelec) organized a familiarization visit on Wednesday, March 4, 2026, for members of the National Assembly's Energy Committee. The parliamentarians toured the strategic sites of the National Dispatch Center, Hann, and Bel Air, before concluding the day at the Seydina Kane building, located in the Keur Gorgui district.

The objective of this meeting was to familiarize the national representatives with the strategic challenges of production and distribution, while simultaneously strengthening transparency towards the authorities responsible for overseeing public policies. This mission is part of the parliamentary monitoring aimed at gaining a better understanding of the functioning of the national electricity system, its operational challenges, and the prospects for improving public service.

At the heart of the Senegalese electrical system

The members of parliament were given a firsthand look at the crucial role of the National Dispatching Center, the true nerve center of the network. They were also briefed on current production capacities, transmission network modernization projects, and efforts to enhance energy efficiency. The visit concluded at Senelec's headquarters, where the delegation was received by the Director General, Papa Toby Gaye.

During his address, Papa Toby Gaye reaffirmed that Senelec is a "glass house" committed to transparency. "We are pleased to welcome this commission to explain how Senelec operates and its future projections, but also to share all information with representatives of the population," he stated. He reassured the parliamentarians about the measures taken by the government to prevent disruptions and emphasized the ambition to reduce electricity costs while improving efficiency. Among the flagship projects, he cited the electrification of 2,700 villages by 2026, as part of the universal access program initiated by the Head of State.

Security challenges and debt recovery: the parliamentarians' appeal

MP Diogomaye Diaw, vice-president of the Energy Committee, praised the progress made in innovation and efficiency. However, he also highlighted the remaining challenges. "There are still shortcomings to address, particularly the issue of public safety and the difficulties Senelec faces with fraud and revenue collection problems," he stated.

Reaffirming the National Assembly's commitment to supporting the company through legislative action, Mr. Diaw emphasized the need to raise awareness among users. "Our role is to talk with the people, to make them understand that Senelec bills must be paid," he added. He concluded by reiterating that universal access to electricity must become a reality for all Senegalese, in order to provide optimal comfort for the entire country.

Il faut auditer la Senelec, encore une fois, il faut auditer la Senelec, c'est une urgence. L'etat pourrait faire des economies astronomiques et faire rentrer des fonds. Il faut AUDITER la Senelec.
