HAMBURG - A day after the violent death of a female dancer in the acclaimed Afrika Afrika circus variety show, German police arrested her 32-year-old former husband Friday in the port city of Hamburg. The dancer, a former member of the Senegalese ballet, fell to her death from an eighth-storey window in Berlin. The show went on in the capital Thursday evening as a memorial to the dead performer, 33, who is survived by a two-year-old daughter. Afrika Afrika was created by talent scouts who scoured small-town African marketplaces for the continent's best acrobats, jugglers and contortionists. They have performed in a palatial carpeted tent for half a million people on a tour through Germany and Austria. The enthusiastic reception for the music-backed show has brought pride in much of Africa at a successful cultural export. The suspect, who is also Senegalese, was wanted under a warrant for manslaughter. A show spokesman said earlier he was a violent person and had been dismissed from the close-knit troupe several weeks ago and given an air ticket home to Africa. A police spokesman said he would be taken back to Berlin and appear Saturday before a magistrate.
