Ces conclusions rappellent que « c’est le christianisme, une religion d’importation, qui a amené l’usage des langues françaises et latines au Sénégal », a expliqué son directeur de recherches, le professeur Mawéja Mbaya lors de la soutenance.
Le travail présenté par Mme Sow au terme de quatre années de recherches ardues, reste novateur dans la mesure où elle est la première chercheuse sénégalaise à aborder la question des chrétiens de son pays sous une approche linguistique, selon le jury.
Cette thèse a été menée grâce à des analyses sociolinguistiques ainsi que des enquêtes de terrain auprès de catholiques et évangélistes de l’Eglise Vie Nouvelle. Les 500 entretiens réalisés ont été conduits avec l’aide de sociologues, auprès de membres du clergé et des fidèles.
