MP Guy Marius Sagna expressed deep concern over recent reports from the Islamic Republic of Mauritania of human rights violations and xenophobic campaigns targeting Senegalese and other African nationals, including Malians and Ivorians. Reports of arbitrary detentions and expulsions in inhumane conditions are increasing, causing serious concern.
While recognizing Mauritania's sovereignty, the MP said: "Mauritania is a sovereign state that has the right to define its own rules, and Senegalese people who choose to go there must respect them." The situation nevertheless requires a reaction, according to him.
In this perspective, Guy Marius Sagna proposes to the National Assembly the creation of a fact-finding mission dedicated to Mauritania. This initiative would aim to investigate the living conditions of Senegalese compatriots, ECOWAS citizens and other African migrants present in this country.
Furthermore, he pledged to challenge the Senegalese government on this crisis, calling for concrete measures to guarantee the security and rights of Senegalese people in Mauritania. "We cannot turn a blind eye to the fate of our compatriots," he insisted.
