A tragedy of unprecedented violence rocked the village of Saré Bourré, in the commune of Néttéboulou (Tambacounda department), on Tuesday, March 18, 2025. Idrissa Sow, an 18-year-old farmer, killed MS Sow, a 12-year-old boy, after a brutal altercation. Arrested and taken into custody, the young suspect now faces justice.
It all began when Idrissa Sow, who was out grazing his horse, encountered Mr. Sow on his way. An argument broke out, and the younger man allegedly hit the older man with a rake. Enraged, Idrissa returned home, grabbed a machete, and then attacked the boy, striking him with multiple fatal blows to various parts of his body. The victim died on the spot.
Alerted, the border police went to the scene before transferring the case to the Gouloumbou gendarmes. After being examined, the lifeless body was taken to the morgue of the Tambacounda regional hospital, while Idrissa Sow was arrested. An investigation is underway to clarify the exact circumstances of this murder, which shocked this town on the border with Gambia.
The residents of Saré Bourré, stunned by this outbreak of violence, deplore an act that rekindles the frequent tensions between young people in the area. MS Sow's grieving family demands justice. "We want the culprit to be punished accordingly for his crime, despite his young age," confided a relative, still in shock.
This tragedy has rekindled the debate on the recurrence of violent conflicts in rural areas and the urgent need for measures to address them.
