Don't be fooled by his first name. German defender Antonio Rudiger is a practicing Muslim. Since the beginning of March, he has scrupulously observed the Ramadan fast. In recent hours, the player has committed a rather unusual act.
In fact, while attending the German national team's press conference, Antonio Rudiger paused to break his fast in front of journalists. He was given food and water shortly before 7 p.m.
"I'm used to it. I don't eat or drink, I strictly follow the rules."
In a previous interview, the Sierra Leonean-born defender revealed that fasting posed no problems for him in his football life.
"I'm used to it. I don't eat or drink, I strictly follow the rules. It's not easy to train, but this way you test your mental strength, and in the end, you succeed. It's one of my main weapons, my mental strength," declared the rock of the Madrid defense.
"I know what I should eat and what I should drink."
He also noted that he had consulted a nutritionist. "I know what I should eat and what I should drink. If I talk to the fitness trainer Pintus, he will make me run and I should listen to him. So it's better to consult a nutritionist," he added jokingly.
Antonio Rudiger is clearly a role model for Muslim players.
