Augustin Senghor took no time in deciding to step down as first vice-president of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) after failing to qualify for the FIFA Council. The president of the Senegalese Football Federation (FSF) came in 10th with just 13 votes in the vote held this Wednesday. This defeat appears to be a disavowal in the eyes of the Senegalese football boss, who has chosen to throw in the towel.
"I was competing for the FIFA Council with other vice-presidents and members of the Executive Committee who have passed away. It would be somewhat inconsistent and even illegitimate for me to claim to lead them. I consider that the position no longer belongs to me. I remain a simple member of the Executive Committee," declared the FSF president.
