Japan became the first country to secure a ticket to the 2026 World Cup thanks to its 2-0 victory over Bahrain in the Asian qualifiers on Thursday in Saitama.
Japan, comfortably leading Group C with 19 points with three matches remaining, is guaranteed qualification for the World Cup, which is co-hosted by Canada, the United States, and Mexico, who automatically qualified as hosts. Daichi Kamada (66th minute) and Takefusa Kubo (87th minute) scored Japan's two goals against Bahrain, who finished fifth in the group.
