The United Nations on Tuesday, February 18, accused the M23 armed group, whose fighters allied with Rwandan troops have taken control of the city of Bukavu in eastern DRC, of having executed children there.

The UN High Commissioner for Human Rights "has confirmed cases of summary executions of children by the M23 after its entry into the city of Bukavu last week," and "we call on Rwanda and the M23 to ensure that human rights and international humanitarian law are respected," said a spokesperson Ravina Shamdasani, during a press briefing.
