Présidentielle de 2026 au Bénin : Un député de l’opposition accorde son soutien au candidat de Talon, Romuald Wadagni

It's quite surprising, but it's typical of the character. In Benin, the member of parliament for the opposition party Les Democrats, Léon Basile Ahossi, sent a letter of congratulations to Romuald Wadagni, the movement's new candidate for the 2026 presidential election. In this letter, the parliamentarian very clearly expressed his support for him.

"You are my candidate too."

"You have just been nominated as a candidate by the parties supporting the government to which you belong, and I warmly congratulate you. Know that beyond these parties, your candidacy enchants and arouses hope and eagerness almost everywhere. In short, you will not only be the candidate of the political parties that have endorsed you. You are my candidate too," he wrote in the letter.

This position will certainly cause some gnashing of teeth within his party.

Note that the Democrats have not yet chosen their candidate.

A deputy who likes to row against the current

Mr. Ahossi likes to row against the tide. Last year, he voted for the 2024 Finance Bill, thus going against the rejection order decided by his parliamentary group.
