The deposit for presidential candidates has been set at 900,000,000 GNF (58,378,938 CFA francs) by the General Directorate of Elections.

According to political analyst Kabinet Fofana, interviewed by the BBC, this "amount is enormous." This is also the opinion of Dr. Faya Millimouno, a former presidential candidate in Guinea in 2015. He believes that people have become so materialistic in his country that "what is the order of law has become an opportunity to extort money from people."

"Setting the deposit at 900 million GNF is really not normal," he denounced. The politician suspects the junta of wanting to "prevent many candidates from being in the race."

“We went from 50 million to 800 million”

Let us recall that the 2015 presidential candidates paid a deposit of 800,000,000 GNF. This was already unreasonable, according to Dr. Faya Millimono.

He said he noted with regret the increase in deposits over the years. "We went from 50 million to 800 million. In 2010, it was 400 million. The intention was to block people. Despite everything, there were 24 candidates in 2010. And from 400 million in 2010, in 2015, we went to 800 million. This cannot be justified even from an economic point of view. Because the country's inflation rate cannot have been 100%. That's what was done. So, it was already abnormal going back to 2015," the politician declared.
