The Minister of National Education, Moustapha Mamba Guirassy, and his colleague from the Armed Forces, General Birame Diop, co-chaired, in Thiès, the official handover ceremony of school materials to the academic authorities for the next school year 2025-2026. This is the launch of the operation in school furniture and teaching materials, therefore the start of a series of allocations of school materials for all the academies of Senegal. Inputs intended to strengthen the quality of education.
The Ministry of the Armed Forces is responsible for ensuring the deployment of logistics throughout the national territory. "50,000 new desks and benches to equip our primary, middle and secondary schools, in order to guarantee all students a comfortable workspace conducive to learning"; "3,389,838 textbooks to update knowledge and support school curricula"; "500,000 complete school kits, including notebooks, pens, pencils and other essential supplies, to equip our primary and secondary students"; "3,000 metal cabinets, 3,000 teacher tables, 5,200 teacher chairs, 2,200 office furniture, 1,300 conference tables, 1,100 storage cabinets and 3,400 storage buffets for teachers, in order to improve students' working conditions and their productivity"; “21,000 whiteboards to equip classrooms, allowing teachers to deliver more interactive and effective lessons.”
An official launch ceremony for the distribution of school materials which, according to the Minister of National Education, is a crucial moment in the preparation for the 2025-2026 school year. It symbolizes, according to Moustapha Mamba Guirassy, "our collective commitment to improving the school environment through the distribution of materials, furniture, and school kits in decentralized structures. A distribution carried out, he says, according to vulnerability criteria in order to promote equity and educational inclusion and to create an environment where all students feel valued and have the same opportunities to succeed, at the same time providing teachers and administrative staff with better working conditions."
The Minister recalled that the Government of the Republic of Senegal is in an active phase of continuing the implementation of the comprehensive reform of its education system to make the education and training sector the main lever for driving and developing Senegal's economy. This orientation, he welcomed, is perfectly consistent with the national transformation agenda Senegal 2050, which sets out the obligation to guarantee equal opportunities, which will be reinforced by education for all.
It is on this basis, Mr Guirassy will say, that the Ministry of Education intends to distribute this equipment which is "the fruit of our determination to offer quality education to all our children, without distinction. They are part of our vision of a more inclusive and more innovative school."
This distribution of school supplies involves the Ministry of National Education as a donor, but also as a partner or beneficiary of actions carried out by foundations, NGOs, or businesses. On this basis, Minister Guirassy appeals to all stakeholders in the education system to contribute infrastructure and equipment in order, he says, to "foster a favorable learning environment, which restores to both teachers and students all the dignity necessary to teach and learn in good conditions."
The Minister of Education, on the occasion, expressed his sincere gratitude to General Birame Diop, Minister of the Armed Forces, for having made available to the MEN, 4 Army Container Carriers and 15 National Gendarmerie Trucks to transport the equipment to all departments of the country.
