Legal troubles are worsening for the mayor of Agnam, Farba Ngom. Imprisoned since February 27 for criminal conspiracy, money laundering, and alleged fraud, the leader of the Alliance for the Republic (APR, the former ruling party) now faces new charges, according to Source A.
Taken from his cell at Rebeuss prison, he was presented to the senior judge of the Financial Prosecutor's Office, who notified him of these new charges. They include having "knowingly converted, transferred, concealed, acquired, held, or used property derived from a crime committed by an organized criminal gang," the newspaper reports.
Faced with the increase in arrests in his close circle, particularly among his younger brothers, the deputy mayor reportedly vented his anger before the investigating magistrate, denouncing a "political conspiracy": "All you have to do is go get my mother. You just have to bring her. For my part, I am ready to live through this ordeal with dignity," he reportedly declared, according to Source A.
The newspaper adds that the bail offered by her lawyers was rejected, keeping Farba Ngom in custody. The case is fueled by a damning report from the National Financial Information Processing Unit (CENTIF), which reports suspicious financial transactions valued at 125 billion CFA francs.
Furthermore, other people cited in the case are also in the sights of the Financial Judicial Pool (PJF), including Tahirou Sarr, expected before the judges this Wednesday.
