In 2021, D. Diallo came across a horrific scene: his father's lifeless body lying in a pool of blood. The victim had just had his throat slit.

The Observer reports that the case was brought before the criminal division of the Thiès High Court four years after the events. The accused is none other than Mr. Diallo, the deceased's other son.

After fleeing, he turned back before "confessing to his murder without giving any reasons for his act," the newspaper reported.

"I took my father's knife without his knowledge. Some time later, I found him in his room to slit his throat. I don't know what prompted me to do it. I had no disagreement with him," he repeated in court, as quoted by the source.

The daily newspaper of the Future Media Group [Gfm], which attended the hearing, reports that his family pleaded insanity to get him off the hook. "My son had been displaying mental health problems since 2019 and was given medication to calm him down. Without these pills, he became agitated and aggressive. When he slit his father's throat, he was no longer taking them," his mother claims. This version is corroborated by the accused's sister.

"I'm not crazy," the latter denies, however. The prosecutor, basing his remarks on the results of the psychiatric examination, "which revealed that [the accused] showed no mental disorder at the time of the events," said he was convinced that "the mason was aware" of his act and "may even have premeditated it." The prosecutor therefore requested 10 years of criminal imprisonment, the Gfm headline adds.

Deliberated on April 14.
