Wrestler Goro Niang, alias "Niang Mballo," was tried before the Dakar flagrante delicto court. He is accused of insulting a police officer, driving without a license, refusing to comply, endangering the lives of others, driving without insurance, violence, assault, and rebellion.

On March 12, 2025, at around 2 p.m., Niang Mballo had an altercation with a police officer during a traffic stop in Camberène 1, not far from the API station. He hit and dragged the officer for several meters before fleeing. He was arrested at Blaise Diagne International Airport as he was about to board a flight to Spain for a wrestling tournament with Spaniards.

Goro Niang denied hitting the police officer. He explained that he was in a hurry to get to the AIBD. Niang Mballo said the officer asked him for the vehicle's parts. Since the vehicle's registration certificate (CMC) had expired, he gave the officer a certificate that another police officer had issued to him at the Cas bi roundabout.

This is how the police officer told him that the car had been impounded, before asking him to take it to the police station.

Niang Mballo continued and told the police officer that he didn't have any fuel to get there. He parked the car nearby to escape so as not to miss his flight. But he didn't hit or drag the officer. Niang Mballo emphasized that he has a driver's license and insurance on his cell phone.

The public prosecutor reminded him that he had admitted the facts during the preliminary investigation. The prosecution is convinced that the wrestler had his wrestling match in mind. For the prosecution, the life of the police officer is worth more than a wrestling fee. The prosecutor, who considers the facts extremely serious, requested a sentence of two years, including six months in prison.

Defense attorney Aboubacry Barro criticized the proceedings. According to the lawyer, the investigation was not conducted objectively. The police went too far in targeting the offense of attempted murder, and the prosecution's indictment was harsh. He then sought clemency from the court during this blessed month of Ramadan.

"Six months is not six days," the lawyer declared before presenting the defendant's driving license to the court. His argument was supported by his colleagues Babacar Mbaye, Amadou Sall, and Ndèye Fatou Sarr, who called for the benevolent application of criminal law.

The decision is set for April 2.
