The Saint-Louis High Court sentenced Mamadou Lamine Ba to eight months in prison on Thursday for assault, battery, and insults.
His mother, Mr. Sène, recounted in court the ordeal she endured at the hands of her son, who was described as a danger to the entire family. Often drunk, he insults her, threatens her with death, and violently attacks those close to her. That day, after a fight with her brother, he attacked her, seriously injuring her.
Widowed and vulnerable, Mr. Sène begged the court to sentence her son heavily and ban him from returning home. Already imprisoned in the past for similar offenses, Mamadou Lamine Ba denies the charges and accuses his mother of wanting to keep him away.
The prosecutor called for strict enforcement of the law, highlighting his dangerousness and his addiction to alcohol and drugs. After deliberation, the court sentenced him to two years, eight of which were to be served in prison.
