Tensions are palpable within the Senegal Airport Workers Union (SYTAS), following the announcement of measures taken by the General Management of Blaise Diagne International Airport (AIBD SA). A press release attributed to the union, published on Friday, March 7, 2025, revealed divergences within this union structure.
According to the Secretary General of SYTAS, this "controversial statement" only comes from a part of the office that feels directly concerned by the decisions taken by the state authorities in collaboration with the General Management of AIBD SA. He specifies that this statement does not commit the entire union or his person as Secretary General.
The union leader reiterates his support for the state authorities and the General Management of AIBD SA, recalling his support for the conclusions of the seminar for exchanges and reflections held in Saly Portugal from February 26 to 28, 2025. This seminar resulted in the development of a social plan aimed at saving AIBD SA, an institution currently in difficulty.
He blames "the critical situation of AIBD SA on the mismanagement of the last two outgoing General Managers". He calls on "the authorities to act effectively to straighten out the company". And to insist on the need to respect workers' rights in this recovery process.
"We cannot talk about workers without preserving the tool of work, and if the latter is sick, the worker cannot survive," he says.
