The Mauritanian Ministry of Energy announced this Thursday the success of the operation to plug the gas leak detected on well A02 of the Grande Tortue Ahmeyim (GTA) field located 120 km off the Senegalese-Mauritanian coast.
According to the official statement, technical teams completed the installation of the LRP (Lower Riser Package) equipment last night, completely stopping the flow of gas bubbles. Post-intervention tests confirmed the effectiveness of the measure.
This leak, identified during the night of February 19-20, raised concerns about its potential impact on the marine ecosystem. BP, the operator in charge of the GTA project, mobilized resources with the authorities of Mauritania and Senegal to contain the situation. The successful closure of this leak marks a key step in the management of this major incident.
