Dérives sur les réseaux sociaux : Cheikh Bass met le ministre Alioune Sall devant ses responsabilités
Alioune Sall, the Minister of Communication, Telecommunications and Digital Affairs, was received in turn by Serigne Mountakha Mbacké and his spokesperson Serigne Bassirou Mbacké Abdou Khadr. The latter took the opportunity to question the minister about the abuses on social networks.
"The world has evolved because we no longer have to travel to get a message across. Everyone can now stay in their own corner to send a message everywhere. You share a responsibility for everything that happens on social media. It's time to regulate the means of communication. The state has the responsibility to redress the perpetrators of abuses," declared the spokesperson for the General Caliph of the Mourides.
The president of the Grand Magal organizing committee nevertheless welcomed the commitment and deployment of resources by the ministry headed by Alioune Sall.
800 people mobilized for the Magal
"First, allow me to thank the administrative authorities who welcomed us in Touba this morning and who accompanied us during our visit, which went well," the minister replied.
"In view of Magal Touba 2025, this is an opportunity for us, the Ministry of Communication, Telecoms and all the structures, all the directors of the entities under supervision, to come here to Touba to inquire about the situation, firstly technically on optimal coverage both in terms of media and technology," he said.
The minister revealed that at least 800 people, both at the level of the MCTN state structures and private structures, notably telephone operators, are mobilized to ensure optimal coverage of the network.
Strengthening network and media coverage
"Touba is an area of influence during the Magal period where we need to strengthen network coverage. A number of strategic points have been identified to set up access points to allow all the faithful who will come during the Magal to have optimal coverage," explained Alioune Sall.
On the media front, arrangements have been made through the structures operating in the media sector, notably RTS, APS, "Le Soleil" and the Maison de la Presse, "to strengthen the systems so that Senegalese people celebrating Magal in Senegal and the diaspora can follow the event in the best possible conditions."
Ongoing reforms in the media sector
Regarding the social media protest, the minister welcomed "these wise words from spokesperson Serigne Bassirou Mbacké Abdou Khadr" and recalled that his ministry "has even initiated reforms in the media sector to ensure optimal regulation as well."
"When we arrived almost a year ago, we realized that there was a situation of widespread anarchy and a framework was put in place to ensure a clear mapping of the people working in the sector. I think we are moving in the right direction to enable the ministry and regulators to have the tools and resources to ensure this regulation," the minister concluded.

Les dérives sur les réseaux sociaux ne peuvent pas être arrêtés ni ralentis par les autorités. C'est illusoire. C'est comme arrêter la mer avec ses bras. Une imcompréhension et une non maitrise de ce nouvel environnement poussent à penser que c'est possible. Les seuls qui peuvent couper court à toutes ces dérives sont les populations. Car les réseaux sociaux ne sont ni pour les gouvernement ni pour l'administration. Mais pour le reste de la population. Donc c'est à elle de ne plus donner de force à de sombres personnages comme Adamo and stuff. Vous allez dans les plus grands pays comme le Japon et la Russie qui ont une plus grande population qu'au Sénégal vous verrez que les population n'accordent pas d'importance à des inutilités vivants. Si les sénégalais consomment du contenu intelligent et du divertissement de qualité, les dérives cesseront immédiatement. Mais comme on aime les vidéos de canivaux, le tapis rouge est bien déroulé pour ces sombres ratés dont vous faites des stars. Wassalam.
