Kaolack : Médina 2 submergé par les eaux, les habitants appellent à l’aide

Heavy rains in Kaolack have left several neighborhoods in critical condition, including Medina 2, where many houses are flooded. The streets of Medina 2, Fass Cheikh Tidiane, and Medina Mbaba have become impassable, submerged by rainwater.

Amath Thiam Hady, secretary general of the Association for the Development of Medina 2, describes the multiple challenges facing the neighborhood: "The main road leading to Medina 2 is cut off, isolating the neighborhood. The internal roads and some houses have become stagnant water points." He emphasizes the urgent need for sand, rubble, and laterite to fill the hollows and limit the accumulation of water. The local mosque is also flooded, exacerbating the situation.

Urgent needs and failing infrastructure

Residents, left to fend for themselves, are demanding motor pumps to drain stagnant water. Access to drinking water is another major problem, despite the proximity of a borehole. The lack of street lighting is an additional concern, especially in a neighborhood that welcomes thousands of pilgrims during the International Gamou of Medina Baye.
