Magal de Touba : Tension et flambée des prix à la gare routière de Saint-Louis
With less than 48 hours to go before the Grand Magal of Touba, the Saint-Louis bus station is experiencing an unusual bustle. From the early hours of the morning, pilgrims flock from all corners of the tercentenary city, hoping to find a vehicle to reach the holy city of Touba for the commemoration of Amadou Bamba's departure into exile.
But the wait is prolonged for many due to a lack of available spaces. And when a vehicle becomes available, relief quickly gives way to anger: the usual fares are revised upwards, sometimes excessively, doubling. This situation fuels tensions and plunges travelers into disarray.
Some, exasperated, are pointing to the lack of controls and demanding immediate intervention from the authorities. They are calling on the Minister of Transport in particular to put an end to the abuses and speculation and to guarantee regular and accessible transport for all, in the run-up to this large religious gathering.
