Présidence de l’Amcow : Le Sénégal définit son champ d’actions

It highlights the urgent need to accelerate universal access to water and sanitation, by mobilizing innovation, research and best practices," the Minister stressed from the outset.

He advocated for the preservation of the source of life, which is also a lever for the resilience of communities and ecosystems in the face of the adverse effects of climate change. "Water, ladies and gentlemen, is much more than a natural resource. It is the foundation of life, the bedrock of economic prosperity and the pillar of environmental stability. In a world marked by growing climatic and socio-economic crises, its good governance is a strategic priority to ensure a sustainable future," said Minister Dr. Cheikh Tidiane DIEYE.
Senegal, through the voice of Minister Dr Cheikh Tidiane DIEYE and as future President of the African Ministers' Council on Water (AMCOW) for the period 2025-2027, and co-organizer of the 3rd United Nations Conference on Water in 2026 with the United Arab Emirates, will do everything within its reach to place water at the heart of the global political agenda.
"The Senegalese presidency of Amcow is committed to adopting an action-oriented approach to strengthen the impact of water and sanitation initiatives in Africa by mobilizing States, development partners and all African stakeholders, it aims to build a free, sovereign, prosperous and resilient Africa by 2063", insisted the representative of the Minister of Hydraulics and Sanitation who also reaffirmed that ''this presidency promotes a new African vision of water, placing these issues at the heart of continental priorities, while defending a unified African position and high-level political advocacy within the African Union and in the global water agenda.'' The Senegalese delegation led by the Director of Sanitation, Mr. Oumar SENE is also composed of the Director General of ONAS, Mr. Séni DIENE, the Director General of SONES, Mr. Abdoul NIANG among others. others.

The ministerial session of the 22nd Congress of the African Water and Sanitation Association (AAEA) was held in Kampala, Uganda. The Director of Sanitation, Mr. Oumar SENE, on behalf of the Minister of Hydraulics and Sanitation, Dr. Cheikh Tidiane DIEYE, the Director General of SONES, Mr. Abdoul NIANG participated in this session on February 18, 2025. This session also recorded the presence of Mr. Laurent TCHAGBA, Ivorian Minister of Water and Forests, the delegations of Cameroon, Uganda, Malawi and Burkina Faso.
