Zac Mbao : «Maman Hourèye» vole pour acheter de la drogue, le tailleur vend le butin pour un baptême
Residents of the Capec and Socabeg housing projects in Zac Mbao can breathe a sigh of relief. The perpetrator of the repeated thefts recorded in their neighborhoods in recent weeks has been arrested and sent to prison. She is a thief. Her name is Maman Hourèye C.
This 24-year-old woman took advantage of the owners' absence to visit her victims' apartments. She broke down doors and emptied wardrobes and other storage spaces, primarily targeting money, clothing, and jewelry. Once her crime was accomplished, she handed the loot over to H. Ousseyni, who was tasked with disposing of it. In return, he guaranteed the thief her dose of Indian hemp.
"Maman Hourèye" fell on February 24. "While she was searching MS Bâ's apartment in the Capec housing project, a child surprised her and alerted her mother," L'Observateur reported in its Thursday, March 20, edition. "Paniced, she tried to escape by jumping from the balcony, but a crowd intercepted her and handed her over to the police. A binder containing administrative documents was found on her, and, well hidden under her clothes, the sum of 300,000 CFA francs."
The newspaper reports that the documents belong to a man named A. Diouf. The same source continues, investigators quickly established a link to a complaint against an unknown person for burglary filed by an AIBD officer.
The latter had told the police that one day upon returning from work, he noticed that his room had been searched and that a filing cabinet containing administrative documents, 300,000 CFA francs, and valuable clothing had disappeared. The investigation revealed that "Maman Hourèye" had been there.
Arrested in turn, H. Ousseyni, a tailor by trade, admitted to the facts. "During the search of his home, a Getzner boubou and other objects were found. He justified the concealment of the clothes by preparing for the baptism of one of his friends and admitted to having sold the rest of the Getzner boubous for 25,000 CFA francs," reports L'Observateur.
The defendants, charged with burglary and receiving stolen goods, were tried in the Pikine-Guédiawaye court. "Maman Hourèye" received a two-year prison sentence, while H. Ousseyni was sentenced to half that sentence.
No compensation was ordered. Some plaintiffs withdrew their claims on this point while others were dismissed, according to L'Observateur.
