Chan-2024 : Seny Mbaye Ndiaye, Layousse Samb et Moussa Cissé, les grandes satisfactions sénégalaises
Eliminated in the semi-finals by Morocco (1-1, 5-3 on penalties), Senegal still managed to climb onto the podium, securing 3rd place against Sudan (1-1, 4-2 on penalties). Even though they didn't lift the trophy, the local Lions showed an attractive face in East Africa, with three players who particularly distinguished themselves.
Seny Mbaye Ndiaye, a defender of the future
At just 20 years old, Seny Mbaye Ndiaye had an impressive tournament. Solid in his interventions and clean in his clearances, the future Celta Vigo central defender was, by far, the best Senegalese player in this 8th edition of the CHAN. Voted Man of the Match in the quarter-final victory against Uganda (1-0), the robust defender (1.90 m) shone again by equalizing with a superb header against Sudan. With his technical and physical qualities, Senegal can count on him for the future.
Joseph Layousse Samb, a modern full-back
Tireless on his left flank, Joseph Layousse Samb made a series of defensive advances and returns. As reliable at the back as he was effective up front, the Teungueth FC player made an impression. Already a scorer against Congo in the group stage, the former Génération Foot player did it again in the semi-finals against Morocco, opening the scoring with a magnificent header. Very involved in the team game, he concluded his tournament in style by converting his penalty in the third-place play-off.
Moussa Cissé, “the new Gana Guèye”
At just 16 years old, Moussa Cissé was one of the tournament's revelations and arguably the youngest player in the competition. A technical and intelligent midfielder, he captivated observers with the quality of his passing, his clearances, and his striking. Showing great maturity despite his young age, the Génération Foot player has all the tools for a promising career. Already being tracked by several clubs, he is well on his way to following in the footsteps of Idrissa Gana Guèye.
