The Champions League round of 16 second leg left its mark on the Atalanta Bergamo locker room. Beaten a week ago in Belgium by Club Bruges (2-1), the Italians were hoping to reverse the trend at home. But on a bad day, Atalanta quickly fell behind (0-3).
At the very beginning of the second half, African Ballon d'Or winner Ademola Lookman reduced the deficit. On the hour mark, the Italians were awarded a penalty that could have allowed them to get back into the game, but Lookman completely missed his shot. A failure that infuriated the Atalanta coach, who violently criticized his Nigerian striker.
"He shouldn't have taken it, he's one of the worst penalty takers I've ever seen. I didn't like it, it was a bad incident. Nerves must not give way, because Atalanta had an excellent Champions League, even against big European clubs, by signing a good run." A statement that risks creating tensions between the best African player and his coach.
