Sénégal–RDC : Pape Thiaw fixe les ambitions avant le choc
On the eve of the crucial match against the DRC Leopards, national coach Pape Bouna Thiaw appeared at a press conference this Monday, accompanied by Lions captain Kalidou Koulibaly. For the coach, the objective is clear: only a victory will allow Senegal to overtake its direct rival and move closer to qualifying for the 2026 World Cup, after the 2002, 2018, and 2022 campaigns.
"It's a tough match against a strong team, but we came with big ambitions. We want the three points. The DRC are favorites, but we will respond," said the coach.
Pape Thiaw also spoke about the first leg (1-1) played at the Abdoulaye Wade Stadium. "We conceded a goal at the very end of the match. It was a bitter memory. But the team has improved a lot and knows how to better manage its lead. We will do everything to avoid conceding and win."
The coach confirmed that some players will be missing. "Tomorrow, neither Ismaïla Sarr nor Moussa Niakhaté will be on the pitch," without revealing any other clues about the team's composition.
At the Stade des Martyrs on Tuesday, the Lions will need to play a perfect match to secure victory and relaunch their qualifying campaign. It's time for concentration and excellence on the pitch.
