Ziguinchor : Des organisations paysannes de femmes alertent sur l’impact négatif de l’agro-industrie sur l’atteinte de la souveraineté
Women's peasant organizations in Ziguinchor are calling on state authorities in Senegal and Africa in general to address the problems of agribusiness on men's health and the degradation of arable land. On the sidelines of a meeting and an international forum on agribusiness in Dakar in the coming days, these women's organizations have declared: "We are the solution," they address the authorities.
"If we truly want to achieve food sovereignty, we must promote agroecology," said Mariama Sonko, President of the "We Are the Solutions" movement in Ziguinchor.
According to her, Africa's land is becoming increasingly impoverished year after year due to the agricultural systems used. As a result, these farmers' organizations are urging the authorities to promote biofertilizers and biostimulants. "The use of biofertilizers and biostimulants is urgent," she added.
For this organization, the suffering that exists today in Africa is the consequence of poor nutrition. Hence the need to move towards this agro-ecological transition, to have a healthy and sustainable diet.
"It is better to promote agroecology than agribusiness," the president argues. These women's farmers' organizations are urging African governments, particularly Senegal's, to integrate this initiative into their agricultural policies, with a view to moving towards food sovereignty.
