Bénin : Le petit mot du célèbre opposant Candide Azannaï, en quittant la Criet pour la prison
Arrested on the morning of Friday, December 12, the prominent Beninese opposition figure Candide Azannai was remanded in custody on Saturday, December 20, after appearing before the judge of liberties at the Court for the Repression of Economic Offenses and Terrorism (CRIET). He is being prosecuted for "conspiracy against the authority of the State and direct incitement to rebellion."
Dressed in a blue suit, upon leaving the courtroom, the former Minister of Defense declared: "I am a warrior."
He then spoke with his relatives, who were present in the lobby of the CRIET (Special Criminal Court), before boarding a van belonging to the Benin Penitentiary Agency, headed for the prison where he will be held pending his trial. According to BIP radio, which reported the information, he was accompanied by six other people who were being questioned in the same case.
