Trafic international de cocaïne : Un jeune Malien condamné à quatre ans fait appel à Conakry

The international cocaine trafficking case involving Hamza Koulibaly has seen a new judicial development. Sentenced to four years' imprisonment and a fine of 100 million Guinean francs (GNF) by the Mafanco Court of First Instance on March 4, the young man of Malian origin has decided to appeal.

Found guilty at first instance, the defendant denied the facts and contested the verdict.

This Thursday, before the Conakry Court of Appeal, the defense raised two main arguments to justify its appeal: the sentence imposed is deemed excessive; the Guinean state has not suffered any direct harm in this case.

A notable point of this appeal hearing is that the State Judicial Agent (AJE) was appointed this time to defend the interests of the Guinean State, whereas he was absent during the first trial.

The AJE immediately requested an adjournment of the hearing, saying it needed time to prepare its response and gather the evidence that the defense disputes.

This request was rejected by Hamza Koulibaly's lawyers, who also questioned the legality of the AJE's constitution in the case. The public prosecutor, invited to give his opinion, however, did not raise any objections to the request for an adjournment.

After deliberation, the Court decided to adjourn the case until October 30, 2025 for further proceedings.
