Kolda : La grève du G7 largement suivie dans les écoles
The school system was largely disrupted this morning due to the strike action launched by teachers' unions, grouped around the G7. This is to pressure the government to respect the agreements signed concerning the situation of decision-making teachers, for whom the G7 is demanding a new status.
After several meetings with unions, the government decided to work towards improving the living conditions of this category of teachers, whose only fault is passing their professional exams after the age of 35. Their failure to be recruited into the civil service is, according to the G7, a fault attributed to the Senegalese state, whose services significantly delayed the process of final admission to the various professional exams.
The G7 therefore calls on the government to publish the decrees granting final admission in a timely manner.
Furthermore, the G7 is demanding that the President of the Republic sign the pending decrees and allocate serviced or unserviced plots of land to teachers' unions. The delay in paying the salaries of contract workers is also being raised.
This strike is having a significant impact on teaching and learning. In fact, students in exam classes are demanding an end to these recurring teacher strikes in order to have a peaceful school year.
It should be noted that after Tuesday's work stoppage, the G7 is observing a total strike tomorrow, Wednesday, across the entire national territory.
Let us remember that the G7 brings together the seven most representative primary and secondary education unions.
