L'UCAD de nouveau rattrapée par les démons de la violence
New violent incidents have further disrupted the already fragile atmosphere at Cheikh Anta Diop University of Dakar (UCAD). Clashes broke out on Wednesday, January 21, 2026, between UCAD security guards and students affiliated with the Kékendo movement, resulting in vandalism and heightened tensions on campus, according to reports in "L'Observateur".
The incident reportedly began with an altercation between a student, described as a member of the Kékendo student group, and a security guard on duty. For reasons still unknown, the dispute quickly escalated, leading to violent clashes and damage to university property.
These events are occurring in a particularly sensitive context, just weeks after the suspension of protests marked by violence within the institution. Images widely shared on social media have reignited feelings of insecurity on campus, recalling episodes of extreme violence in the past.
During the clashes, the student involved in the initial incident was reportedly seriously injured with a knife. According to "L'Observateur," the injury was inflicted by the security guard with whom he had argued. The guard was arrested and taken into custody at the Point E police station as part of the ongoing investigation.
The arrest of the security guard, however, was not enough to quell tensions. In response, students belonging to the Kékendo movement reportedly organized a counter-offensive, marked by acts of vandalism on campus. Several university facilities, including restaurants, were allegedly damaged, while some security personnel were targeted.
Given the seriousness of the situation and the risk of an uncontrolled escalation, the authorities have been alerted. The Minister of the Interior has been contacted to strengthen security measures and prevent further unrest.
On the instructions of the public prosecutor at the Dakar High Court, a judicial inquiry has been opened to establish responsibility. The investigation is ongoing to identify all those involved in this violence, which has once again tarnished the image of this prestigious institution of Senegalese higher education.

L'etat ne peut pas utiliser notre argent pour une eternelle reparation des degats causes par des bandes d'inalphabetes.
Ce mouvement en majorité composé des étudiants du sud est né avec sonko, ce sont des soutiens de sonko.
L état sait sait tout et ils n ont pas le courage devant sonko de le dissoudre. C'est un gang. Quand il y aura mort d homme ça sera trop tard.
