Mérina Dakhar : une ancienne enseignante entre dans l’histoire
On May 23rd, the prefect of Tivaouane, Abou Sy, installed Maïmouna Baldé as the new sub-prefect of Mérina Dakhar. This appointment is historic, as Ms. Baldé becomes the first woman to hold such a position in the heart of the Cayor region, notes Le Soleil. The national daily newspaper specifies that she succeeds Mouhamadou Wade, who was transferred to head the sub-prefecture of Moudéry, after a tenure warmly welcomed by the local population and dignitaries.
A computer technician and former teacher, the new head of the district joined the territorial administration in 2018. Before this promotion, she held the position of deputy to the sub-prefect of Koungheul, in the Kaffrine region.
During the installation ceremony, which took place in the presence of mayors as well as religious and traditional authorities, Maïmouna Baldé affirmed that she fully understood the magnitude of her mission. She promised to continue the work begun by her predecessor for the well-being of the local population, while ensuring that her actions were conducted with "scrupulous respect for republican ethics, founded on the authority, objectivity, and impartiality of the State," the same source added.
