Litige foncier : Un collectif de la diaspora réclame ses terrains acquis depuis 2009 et interpelle le président Faye et son PM

Members of the Collective of Families of Saly Joseph, Senegalese from the diaspora established in France, Italy, Spain, Germany, Belgium and the United States, mobilized in large numbers on a land site which they claim to have purchased since 2009. Gathered around a symbolic picnic, they intended to remind people of their existence and demand the return of their land so that they could build their homes there.

Kane Ndèye Fatou, a member of the collective, explains the genesis of the project: "Since 2009, we have created a collective of the diaspora around a real estate project. The idea was that, over a period of ten years, Senegalese people living abroad could return to the country and live on their own land."

According to her, the members contributed regularly, sending money every month for the acquisition of plots of land, nurturing the hope of one day being able to return permanently to Senegal.

"For years, the project existed. But to our great surprise, when we returned to build, we found ourselves facing a problem that we had already reported. We are not here to protest or to disturb anyone. We have simply come to claim our land and ask that the project continue," insisted Ms. Kane.

The group claims to include approximately 250 families wishing to build and live on the acquired land.

During the meeting, DSCOS agents went to the scene to assess the situation. A tense exchange briefly occurred when the commander, who identified himself as a DSCOS representative, attempted to deliver a summons to the members of the group. They refused to accept it, explaining that the group's president was in France and that no member could assume responsibility for it. They suggested that the summons be issued in the group's name and sent to their lawyer.

During the exchange, the commander reportedly indicated that the case had already been closed. When questioned about this information, Ms. Kane was cautious. "I prefer not to comment on that, as it's information I don't have full control over. I just heard it and I'm not aware of it," she stated.

However, she reaffirmed the feeling of exclusion felt by the members of the collective. "We are families who have been living in the diaspora for decades. These plots of land represent our only hope of returning home. We paid our money to buy land and too often it ends like this. This cannot continue," she lamented.

The group is now appealing to the highest authorities of the State, directly addressing the President of the Republic, Bassirou Diomaye Diakhar Faye, and the Prime Minister, Ousmane Sonko. "We have faith in them and hope they will help us find a solution so that we can finally build our houses," Ms. Kane stated.
