Benjamin Netanyahou refuse à Emmanuel Macron une visite en Israël : "Renoncez d'abord à reconnaître un État palestinien"
Diplomatic tensions between Paris and Jerusalem are intensifying. According to a report broadcast Wednesday evening by the Israeli channel Kan, confirming a report published the day before on i24NEWS, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu refused a request from French President Emmanuel Macron to visit Israel, setting as a precondition that Paris renounce its intention to recognize a Palestinian state.
According to the Israeli public broadcaster, Macron wanted to make a quick visit to Israel, but Netanyahu refused, believing that the French head of state's visit was incompatible with his current position. "We will not let Macron have it both ways," an Israeli source said.
Former French MP Meyer Habib, interviewed by i24NEWS on Tuesday evening, confirmed this information: "Macron sent a message to Netanyahu to express his wish to come. Netanyahu replied that, in the current circumstances, it was not the right time."
Relations between the two countries have deteriorated sharply in recent months. Emmanuel Macron announced his intention to recognize a Palestinian state at the UN General Assembly on September 22, angering Israel. The French president has also twice called for an embargo on arms sales to Israel, arguing that halting exports “was the only way to end the fighting” in Gaza and Lebanon.
In a letter to Macron in late August, Netanyahu directly accused him of fostering anti-Semitism in France. “Your call for a Palestinian state is adding fuel to the anti-Semitic fire. This is not diplomacy, it is appeasement. It rewards Hamas terrorism, complicates the release of hostages, and encourages hatred of Jews in your streets,” he wrote.
The Élysée Palace reacted firmly, calling the accusations “abject” and “erroneous,” while affirming that France “protects and will always protect its Jewish citizens.”
