Détention des supporters sénégalais au Maroc : Amsatou Sow Sidibé engage une médiation à Yaoundé
The National Human Rights Commission of Senegal (CNDH) is stepping up its efforts. Its focus: defending the rights of Senegalese supporters imprisoned in Morocco following the incidents at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) final in Rabat.
On the sidelines of the 15th Biennial Conference of the Network of African National Human Rights Institutions (NANHRI), held from February 4 to 6 in Yaoundé, the President of the National Human Rights Commission (CNDH), Professor Amsatou Sow Sidibé, met with her Moroccan counterpart, Ms. Amina Bouayach. This one-on-one meeting provided an opportunity to directly address the delicate situation of Senegalese nationals.
Far from being a mere courtesy, this meeting signals a commitment to strengthening institutional cooperation. The two presidents shared crucial data and developed joint strategies to ensure fair treatment of detainees, while also safeguarding the historical and fraternal relations between Dakar and Rabat.
The CNDH reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring continuous monitoring of this case. "Our absolute priority is the rigorous respect for fundamental rights and the protection of our compatriots abroad," declared Amsatou Sow Sidibé.
As a reminder, the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations final in Rabat was marred by tensions that led to several arrests among the Senegalese supporters. Faced with growing concern from families, the National Human Rights Commission (CNDH) is now prioritizing "human rights diplomacy" to ensure that every supporter receives a fair and dignified process.
