The iconic Thiès group, "Royal Band," dedicated a cultural evening to its late singer, Adama Seck, known as Sécka. The event, held this Saturday, November 15th, marked the first edition of the Cayor Night, initiated by Omar Sèye (known as Sèye Latyr), the group's conductor, and supported by the Minister of Culture.

The ceremony, filled with emotion and memories, brought together friends, relatives, and members of the "Royal Band". Sécka, who passed away on Saturday, May 3, 2025, at the age of 70, was a central figure in the music scene in Thiès and Senegal.

Omar Sèye was keen to justify this tribute: “We dedicated this first edition of the Nuit du Cayor to our late brother Sécka. Thiès is synonymous with culture. And Sécka played an important role in Thiès and Senegalese music. He was a great lyricist and he deserves a tribute.”

Sécka left his mark on the music scene with his songwriting talents and memorable hits, notably "Samba Alar". Known for addressing themes of everyday life, he left behind a rich and varied musical legacy, including 5 albums and several singles.

The singer, who began his career in 1976, knew how to innovate, notably by renaming his group "Secka et les Damels", then "Les Damels", in homage to the Damels of Cayor.

Sèye Latyr testified to a "man of peace and good family man" whose contribution to Senegalese music is considered invaluable.

Taking advantage of the opportunity, the conductor addressed the state authorities. He requested financial support for the music scene in Thiès. He called for the revival of activities at the New Senegalese Textile Company (NSTS), headed by Ibrahima Macodou Fall, a former guitarist of the "Royal Band".

November 15, 2025 will remain a key moment in the memory of the Cayor music scene.
