Abdourahmane Diouf : « Ce serait la fin de la République si… »
In an interview with L'Observateur, the Minister of the Environment and leader of the Awalé party, Abdourahmane Diouf, discusses the recent media appearance of President Bassirou Diomaye Faye, which he interprets as a firm reminder of the fundamental principles and institutional architecture of Senegal.
On the issue of governance, the member of the "Diomaye President" coalition categorically rejects any idea of power-sharing at the highest level of the Executive branch. Believing the Constitution to be unambiguous, he asserts that it leaves no room for institutional duality. "There can be neither duality nor cohabitation, whether peaceful or harsh," the political leader insists.
He points out that the legitimacy derived from universal suffrage gives the head of state a central position, and considers that any attempt to reinterpret this system would be "outside the bounds of the Republic".
Addressing the risks of disrupting this balance, the minister emphasized the institutional peril such a shift would represent. He warned that any breach of this hierarchy would weaken the State itself, going so far as to declare that "it would be the end of the Republic," referring to the legal uncertainty it would create.
Finally, the interviewee for the Groupe Futurs Médias newspaper reaffirmed the cohesion of the "Diomaye Président" coalition. He emphasized the discipline expected from the parliamentary majority, which is called upon to exclusively support presidential action, excluding any logic of cohabitation or competition at the top of the Executive branch.
