Actes contre-nature : Thierno Alassane Sall explique pourquoi il a refusé de…
During the vote on the law increasing penalties for unnatural acts, Thierno Alassane Sall was among the three members of parliament who abstained. Speaking to the press this Sunday, the president of the Republic of Values party justified his position by saying he refused to give in to "blackmail" from the majority. "Many Senegalese were surprised to learn that there is an article (319) of the Penal Code that combats unnatural acts, including homosexuality. In the National Assembly, contrary to the aim of criminalization, this broad campaign turned into a farce by presenting an amendment to Article 319 under the pretext that it was incomplete," the MP stated, as reported by Les Échos.
Sall continued: “Having endured this campaign of slander and demonization for years, could I possibly vote with Pastef for this law and endorse this reversal? Worse, they came with the intention of telling people from the outset: ‘Today, we will know who is against homosexuality and who is for it.’ A form of blackmail, as always with Pastef, since they are manipulative. I refuse to fall into their trap. That is why, on that day, I challenged them by saying: ‘I will not vote for your law.’”
