Assemblée nationale : cap sur la ratification de quatre accords internationaux
Members of the National Assembly will meet tomorrow, Thursday, June 25, in plenary session, to examine four bills authorizing the President of the Republic to ratify international agreements and conventions covering areas as varied as the environment, criminal justice, judicial cooperation, and water resource management.
The first text submitted to parliamentarians for review is draft law no. 07/2026 authorizing the ratification of the Agreement relating to the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea and concerning the conservation and sustainable use of marine biological diversity in areas beyond national jurisdiction (BBNJ Agreement). Adopted on June 19, 2023, in New York, this agreement aims to strengthen the protection of marine biodiversity on the high seas and to promote the sustainable use of ocean resources.
Members of Parliament will also consider Bill No. 12/2026 concerning the ratification of the Convention on Mutual Legal Assistance in Criminal Matters between the Government of the Republic of Senegal and the Republic of The Gambia. Signed in Dakar on March 12, 2020, this convention aims to strengthen cooperation between the judicial authorities of the two countries in the fight against cross-border crime.
The third text, draft law no. 13/2026, concerns the ratification of amendments to Article 8 of the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court (ICC), adopted on July 17, 1998. These amendments would aim to broaden the scope of war crimes falling under the jurisdiction of the international court.
Finally, draft law no. 14/2026 authorizes the ratification of the Constitutive Charter of the World Water Organization, signed on May 28, 2025, in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. This organization aims to strengthen international cooperation on the sustainable management of water resources and the promotion of water security.
