Bougar Diouf dénonce une dérive politique : « Le Sénégal ne doit pas devenir une République de vengeance »
In a note, Bougar Diouf, president of the Union of Senegalese Pan-Africanists (UPS), expressed his deep concern about the possible indictment of former President Macky SALL, initiated by the PASTEF parliamentary group led by Mohamed Ayib DAFFÉ.
For Bougar Diouf, this approach constitutes an "indelible stain" on Senegal's political history. He points out that since independence, no Senegalese president has been accused by his successor, and that this restraint has always been the moral foundation of the Republic.
"Accusing Macky SALL is crossing a red line that SENGHOR, DIOUF and WADE have always refused to cross," he says.
He discusses the crises experienced by former heads of state from the 1962 crisis to the assassination of Me Babacar Sèye and underlines their constant choice of stability, forgiveness and respect for institutions.
Senegal, a model of democracy and wisdom
Bougar Diouf celebrates the country's founding values: Teranga, dialogue, and moderation. He pays tribute to religious and traditional figures who have always been pillars of peace, such as Serigne Abdou Aziz Sy Dabakh, Cheikh Al Islam Ibrahim Niasse, Thierno Mountaga Tall, and many others.
He recalls that Senegal has never experienced a military coup, and that its stability is based on faith, courage and consensus.
A threat to international credibility
According to him, an indictment of Macky SALL would weaken political stability, discourage investors, and tarnish Senegal's image in the eyes of its international partners: ECOWAS, the African Union, the Bretton Woods institutions, and allied diplomacies.
"It is not only Macky SALL who would be tarnished, it is Senegal that would be degraded," he warns.
He therefore calls on religious leaders, intellectuals, former presidents, women of peace, traditional chiefs, young people and students to stand up to defend the honor of Senegal.
Bougar insists that "it is not a question of defending a man, but of preserving the republican heritage and national dignity."
He concludes: "Senegal is us. Senegal is not hatred. It is respect, peace, and dignity. Yes to eternal Senegal, to the Senegal of peace, respect, and greatness."
